Kristín Ómarsdóttir is one of the most awarded Icelandic writers of her generation. She writes prose, poetry and dramatic texts. She was nominated for the Nordic Council Prize for Literature for her fifth novel, Elskan mín ég dey (1997, Love, I’m Dying), and for her eighth collection of poetry, Kóngulær í sýningargluggum (2017, Spiders in the Window). In her writing, she masterfully uses plasticity of language and surreal tones. Her most recently published books are the novel Svanafólkið (2019, in English translation Swanfolk, 2022) and the short story collection Borg bróður míns (2021). Translations of her books have been published in Denmark, Finland, France, Sweden, the UK and the USA. She is also a visual artist. In 2022, she visited Košice as part of the Author Reading Month programme.
On April 17, Kristín Omarsdóttir was a guest at the Language Café of the Mareena civic association, which helps foreigners in Slovakia to integrate. On April 25, Kristín presented her author reading and talk at the Sándor Marai Memorial Exhibition (on the 1st floor at Mäsiarská 35 in Košice). During her residency, she worked on a new novel and also created new poems.
